On August 7, 2004, exactly two decades ago, Khmelnytskyi NPP unit 2 was connected to the Ukrainian power grid.
"Since Ukraine became independent, this is the second power unit built by Energoatom. It strengthened the national power system and added 1000 MW of baseload. Even then, the unit had the potential to operate in the European power system," said Petro Kotin, CEO of JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”.
According to him, this event is significant in constructing new power units at the KhNPP site.
